How would you compare the teachings of Christianity, as described in the New Testament passages we read for this week, to the values cherished by earlier civilizations we have discussed (particularly the Greeks, and the values expressed in Homer’s works)?Conversely, can you see anything in common between Christianity and some of the great ancient thinkers we have discussed?

What is the main fact which contrasts Christianity and ancient Greek religion? The Christians believe in a monotheistic religion, they pray too and have faith in one superior God who created the universe and his son, Jesus Christ, who loves and forgives unfailingly and unconditionally. Whereas, the ancient Greeks were constantly offering sacrifices despite of their feelings towards the higher, divine entities, trying to please them despite of their dirty, ruthless, and immature characteristics. In the end, while the Christians love and respect one leader, the Greeks didn’t appreciate the Olympic Gods and believed they had to please them.
