Julius Caesar, lived from 100 BC to 44 BC and was a Roman general and statesman associated with populares. Having allied with Pompey and Crassus to create the First Triumvirate, he began growing in power receiving military command over many legions in north Rome and restored power to the Tribune. On his military expedition to Gaul he crossed the Rubicon River triggering a Civil War with Rome which forced Caesar to attack and wipe his old comrade’s control over the republic. Post destruction from yet another of Romes civil wars, Caesar began the conversion of the Roman Republic to the Roman Empire. With his rule came new reforms and the citizens grew aware and weary of his motives to transform their beloved Rome to a kingdom. From his social and government reforms till his proclamation that he is a “dictator for life” angered the opposing party, for they didn’t support his populist and authoritarian adjustments. This epic tale soon concluded with the. famous assassination upon Caesar’s entry of the court room by his own friend Brutus. In the end Julius Caesar was a key piece to the evolution of Rome.
